The Use Of Spiritual Disciplines In Pastoral Care

This workshop is for caregivers who are interested in incorporating spiritual disciplines into pastoral care. It is designed for clergy and laity who are active caregivers. The training will be both informative and hands-on.

Dr. Gill-Austern is Austin Philip Guiles Professor of Psychology and Pastoral Theology and faculty director of the Faith, Health and Spirituality Program at Andover Newton Theological School. A minister in the United Church of Christ, she has served churches in California and Pennsylvania. She is a frequent keynote speaker at national conferences, including the 2004 Annual Conference of The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Dr. Gill-Austern has published numerous articles on pastoral theology and is coeditor of Feminist and Womanist Pastoral Theology. Currently she is working on a book which is tentatively entitled Heroic Humility in An Age of Naricissm. Dr. Gill Austern holds a MDiv from Harvard Divinity School and a PhD from the Graduate Theological Union.

This workshop is being sponsored by Auburn Theological Seminary as part of the Advanced Pastoral Care Consultation. Continuing Education Units are being offered for it.
